How to Stay Sane During a Full Season of Life (Without Burning Out)

Keep reading this post to learn:

  • Guilt-free whimsy potato days (what they are & why you need one)

  • Redefining your non-negotiables

  • How romanticizing your routines can be the secret to staying grounded when everything feels like a lot

Let’s be real — some seasons of life are a lot.

Whether you're navigating grief, launching something new, or just juggling a million responsibilities, staying grounded can feel impossible.

From November to April, I walked through a deeply emotional season that led straight into a full-on work push. I lost my sweet Grandma, hosted my first holiday season without her, and then immediately dove into launching my new course, Peacefully Productive CEO.

But even with all of that, I came out of the season feeling surprisingly steady. Not perfect. Not carefree. But grounded.

Here’s exactly what helped me stay sane during a full season — and how you can use these tips in your own life too!

01. Set a Hard End Date (and Plan for the Recharge)

Push seasons are part of life. The key is making sure they have a clear finish line. When I saw that March and April would require more from me, I blocked off May–July as a season of margin and rest.

This helped me push without spiraling—because I knew the rest was coming.

✨ Pro Tip: Even if you’re in a long-term push season (like school or caregiving), carve out mini-breaks between semesters or responsibilities and protect them like gold.

02. Redefine Your Non-Negotiables

Full seasons require different priorities. The best way to stay sane? Revisit your non-negotiables and protect them fiercely.

Here were mine during my busiest months:

  • Daily 2-mile family walks

  • Monthly overnight date with my husband

  • Weekly visit with my Granddad

  • 4x/week morning & evening routines

  • Self-care Fridays (yes, half-days count!)

  • Maintenance mode in business—no new projects

Think of your life in categories: well-being, relationships, physical health, vocation, finances, and environment. What can you realistically show up for in each area right now?

03. Give Yourself Permission to Let Things Go (On Purpose)

When we try to “do it all,” we end up resenting everything. Instead of silently struggling, name what you’re letting go of—out loud and on purpose.

Here’s what I let go of in March-April:

  • Deep cleaning (my tidy routines were enough)

  • Writing Hustle Sanely Mail

  • YouTube content

  • Girls’ night (skipped April without guilt!)

Making peace with what’s on pause frees up so much mental energy. Say it with me: “Not now” doesn’t mean never.

04. Be Strategic About Weeks 1 & 2 After Your Push Season

Coming out of a full season can be disorienting. I used to crash or overcorrect (cue: cleaning out every closet in a single weekend). Now I plan for two kinds of rest:

  • Week 1: Whimsy Potato Time
Minimal responsibilities. Maximum recharge. Think sunshine reading sessions, random coffee dates, and guilt-free lounging.

  • Week 2: Life Reset Week
Slowly catch up on what you let go of—deep clean, declutter, re-organize. I tackle a small list over a week to avoid burnout.

This rhythm helps me return to normal life without swinging into extremes.

05. Romanticize the Day-to-Day

This one saved me. When things feel heavy or routine, intentionally making moments beautiful can completely change your mental state.

Some ways I romanticized my full season:

  • Got dressed for work days (yes, even at home!)

  • Played “main character” playlists while I worked

  • Made fancy espresso with my new machine

  • Watched a favorite show when I worked late

  • Diffused oils, slowed down routines, made everything feel like a cozy ritual

Romanticizing isn’t about pretending life is perfect. It’s about making it feel a little more magical, on purpose.
