How to Do a Mid-Year Reset: A 4-Step Guide to Realign Your Goals

Keep reading this post to learn:

  • My 4-step mid-year reset process so that you can show up well for the rest of 2026 (even if that means throwing all of your January goals out the window)

Somehow...we're already more than halfway through the year.

If you're anything like me, you probably started the year with big goals, fresh motivation, and every intention of making this your year.

And then...life happened 🫠

Maybe your priorities changed?
Maybe your schedule changed?
Maybe your family dynamic has changed?
Maybe you changed!

And just in case no one’s told you: that doesn't mean you've failed, bestie.

It actually means you're living a very real, very fluid life.

That said, one of my favorite things to do every July is a mid-year reset! It’s a surefire way to ensure that how I’m spending my time still reflects the life I'm trying to build!

Here's the exact four-step process I use every year 👇

Step 01: Revisit Your Goals

Before you make any new plans, go back to the goals you set at the beginning of the year.

Yes...actually pull them up.

Whether they're in your planner, your Notes app, a journal, or scribbled on the back of a receipt (my type A heart is literally racing for you, but do you, girl! 😂), read through each one and ask yourself:

  • Does this goal still matter to me?

  • Does this goal still make sense for the season of life I'm in?

If the answer is "no," let it go!

I cannot stress enough that keeping a goal just because you wrote it down in January isn't helping anyone. (You’re the anyone, btw.)

One of the healthiest things you can do is release goals that no longer align with your life.

Again, it’s not giving up, it’s growth.

Step 02: Realize Where You’re Currently At

Now that you've cleared out goals that no longer fit, it's time to look at where you are right now.

Your season of life shapes your capacity, your priorities, and your schedule.

Maybe you've welcomed a new baby.

Started a new job.

Moved.

Had a child start preschool.

Or maybe you've simply realized you need more margin than you did six months ago.

Instead of trying to force your January goals into your July life, ask yourself:

What goals would actually support me in this season?

And here's a wild permission slip: You don't have to replace every goal you let go of 🫢

That’s right. You don't get bonus points for having the longest goal list of all the people ever.

Step 03: Revise Your Priorities

Goals are great! But goals without priorities usually stay ideas (womp, womp).

For each goal you've decided to keep, ask yourself:

What has to be true in my everyday life for this goal to actually happen? 👀

Maybe your goal is to spend more intentional time with your family.

That might mean putting your phone away during dinner!

Maybe your goal is to improve your health.

That might mean protecting your workout time instead of squeezing it in "if there's time."

Your priorities determine where your time and energy go. Make sure they're supporting the life you're trying to build 🫶

Step 04: Revamp Your Schedule & Routines

Now it's time to make your schedule match your priorities!

Remember: your routines are tools, not chains.

They're meant to support your life, not make you feel guilty.

Start by looking at what a typical week already includes:

  • Work

  • Family commitments

  • Appointments

  • Church

  • Kids' activities

Then layer in your non-negotiables, your supportive habits, and your routines.

Finally, ask yourself:

  • Is there anything I need to step away from?

  • Is there anything I can delegate?

  • Do my routines still fit this season?

  • Am I protecting time for what matters most?

When your schedule reflects your priorities, life starts to feel a whole lot less chaotic!

A Mid-Year Reset Doesn’t Require Starting Over

One of the biggest misconceptions about resetting is that you have to erase everything and begin again.

(You don't.)

A mid-year reset is simply a chance to pause, check in, and make sure the life you're building still aligns with the woman you're becoming.

Your plans are allowed to evolve.

Your priorities are allowed to shift.

Your routines are allowed to change.

Again! It’s not failure! It’s wisdom!

So, grab your planner, order your favorite coffee, and give yourself an hour to reflect.

Future you will be really glad you did 👏🏼
