Why a shared family calendar is a total game-changer
How simple home routines can lower stress and boost peace
Let’s be real — when your home feels chaotic, it’s hard to focus on anything else. And if you’re like me, you want your space to feel like a calm, supportive haven… not a place that constantly makes you feel behind or overwhelmed.
That’s why I’m sharing 6 of my favorite low-effort, high-impact habits that help our home run smoothly without spending hours cleaning or organizing every day. These simple rhythms take the stress out of keeping up and make space for the peace you're craving.
01. Have a Sorting System for Incoming Items
Our homes are constantly filling up with stuff: mail, boxes, forms, school papers, you name it. If we’re not intentional, all that clutter becomes visual noise that adds to our mental load. Not the vibe, lol.
My simple system:
Junk mail goes straight in the trash
Packages get opened and recycled immediately
To-do items go on my desk
Adam’s things go in one designated spot
The key? Don’t let anything float in limbo. Give it a home right away to avoid clutter piles that drain your energy.
02. Keep a Rolling Donation Bag
Decluttering doesn’t need to be a big event. We keep a trash bag in the closet and drop things in as we go — clothes that don’t fit, toys that aren’t played with, gadgets we never use.
Once it’s full? Off it goes to the donation center. Cool, right?
No overthinking. No sorting marathons. Just a light-touch habit that keeps our space feeling fresh and functional!
03. Use a Shared Family Calendar
Mental load? We don’t know her. We use Google Calendar to track everything — appointments, events, personal tasks — and we both have access.
This one habit keeps us synced, reduces last-minute surprises, and helps us support each other’s schedules like a team.
Pro tip: It doesn’t matter what calendar tool you use, just choose one and stick to it!
04. Put Essentials on Auto-Ship
From toilet paper to laundry detergent to our daily vitamins — anything we regularly use is on auto-ship!
No more last-minute Target runs or forgetting what we’re out of. If it’s not something I want on auto-ship (like skincare), I re-order the second I open a new one. Trust me, your future self will thank you!
05. Use Home “Opening” + “Closing” Routines
A clean start and intentional close to the day makes a huge difference in how your space feels.
My home opening routine (morning):
Start a load of laundry
Unload the dishwasher
Start diffusers
Make beds
Run the robot vacuum
My home closing routine (evening):
Clean up the kitchen
Run the dishwasher
Pick up loose items
Swiffer the floors
Fluff the couch pillows
These routines take 15–20 minutes max and create a clean slate that supports our peace!
The Bottom Line?
You don’t need an elaborate chore chart or picture-perfect pantry to have a home that supports your goals. These habits aren’t glamorous, but they’re sustainable, effective, and help me stay peacefully productive.
If your home has felt a little chaotic lately, try picking just one of these habits to implement this week. You might be surprised how big a shift it makes ✨
