Simple, grounded ways to engage with the outside world intentionally without burnout
If the world feels like it’s on fire and your brain is screaming “I can’t do this anymore,” you’re not alone. 🤍
October is usually a cozy, grounding month around here, and while I’m still leaning into my fall rituals, I also can’t ignore the emotional weight in the air right now. This isn’t a “fix your life in 5 minutes” post. But it is a space for you to exhale, find your footing, and try a few things that might help you feel a little less chaotic inside.
Here are 3 things I’m personally doing to protect my peace in the midst of heavy news cycles, daily to-dos, and emotional overwhelm:
Step 01: Strategically Manage Your Digital Environment
Let’s get one thing straight: we weren’t built to process the entire world in one scroll. And yet, social media expects us to witness heartbreak, disaster, and opinion wars 24/7 — then carry on like everything’s fine.
This quote from @dr.raymondnichols hit me like a ton of bricks:
“You weren’t meant to see 17 different people die on your lunch break. But now it’s expected, and if you don’t post about it, suddenly you don’t care?”
To protect my peace, I’m:
Choosing 1–2 trusted news sources to check in with a couple times a week
Setting up social media boundaries (no Instagram before 7 AM or after 9 PM, thanks to my Brick!)
Experimenting with designated scroll times (20 min in the morning, afternoon, and evening)
The goal? Give my brain time to process before I react — and stop letting the algorithm hijack my emotions.
Step 02: Nurture Your Inner World
I can’t control what’s happening outside my front door, but I can influence how my home feels. And let me tell you, I’m not about to let the chaos out there turn me into an anxious mess in here.
Here’s what’s helping me feel grounded:
Go outside daily without a phone — just breathe, move, observe, and be
Prioritize spiritual self-care (prayer, scripture, journaling, church, etc.)
Love your people like it’s your job — because it kinda is
The state of your heart becomes the state of your home. I want my home to be peaceful, loving, and present, not frantic or fearful. And that starts with me.
Step 03: Engage With the Outside World Intentionally
Read that again. With intention.
It’s easy to feel paralyzed when we realize we can’t fix everything. But here’s what I’ve learned: I’m not called to save the world. I am called to be a helper where I can.
Instead of spiraling, I’m choosing to:
Show up where my values align, being the hands and feet of Jesus in my community
Have meaningful convos with people who are different from me, and really listen
Ditch the all-or-nothing mindset and do what I can with what I have
This is how we become light in a dark world: by showing up with grace, compassion, and consistency.
The Bottom Line? You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
